This is #1 because If you are uncomfortable in your clothes, this will be reflected in your photographs and what I want to photograph for you is the REAL you. Even if it breaks ALL of the following guidelines. You and your family will have the best pictures if you are comfortable and feel great in what you're wearing, so please make sure that you are not sacrificing your comfort for the sake of an outfit, because that's not what this type of photography is all about. I only share these recommendations because people DO still ask me what they should wear. So if you were wondering what clothes work best in photographs, please read on.
#2 Avoid these Distracting Elements
Bright white/red/magenta or neon clothing
#3 Don't Match, Please
Unless you always wear the same outfit as your husband and kids, please don't do this for photographs. It's a very dated idea and you want TIMELESS photographs of your real life, right?
#4 Flatter Yourself
Close-fitting clothing (think more tailored, less baggy) tends to be more flattering in pictures.
#5 BONUS TIP:
While I don't recommend making your kids or husband wear a certain outfit, you can help them out. Ideally, they will pick out whatever they want to wear that makes them feel great. What you CAN do is 'edit' their closet. If you really don't want them to wear their neon green Fortnite t-shirt (I might be speaking from experience here), then you just need to make sure it's not in their closet for them to put on that day. This works for kids of all ages. You're welcome!
