Turning 13: My Autistic Nephew's Backyard Birthday Party
Jul 13, 2020 | By: Calgary Family Photographer Alison Lapczuk
I was there at Caellum's birth with an old-fashioned video camera. Can you believe how technology has changed in 13 years?
My position was behind the glass in a large operating room at the Foothills hospital. There was a huge team involved in my twin sister's c-section. Ready to take care of baby Caellum.
As a newborn, Caellum needed to be rushed to Edmonton for open heart surgery, followed by 9 months of home oxygen and years of further complications, including brain surgery at 2 years old. This little dude's been through it all. He is also on the autism spectrum. Throughout his life, he's always maintained a happy demeanour, laughing and smiling every single day. He is just one happy kid!
It's true what they say; kids really do grow up fast and I can hardly believe that he's a teenager.
We celebrated over at my sister's house and I took my camera along to document the milestone.
Here are some of my favourite photographs of Caellum's 13th Birthday with family.
